Poet/painter/post-man: a poetry performance/ lecture

Daniel Vorthuys (1990) is a poet and critic who is currently looking for the intersection between poetry and the visual arts. He balances his interests in classical literature, and contemporary art against an obsession with the ontological claim: “I am a poet/painter/post-man”. The craftsman calls himself poet, or artist in order to legitimize his product to his audience. Thus does the ever-evolving evolution of media complicate the questions: Where is the poet, and what is the poem. Daniel will look for answers within the frames of the video/ sculpture/installation/document and by means of the works of Carl André, Arthur Rimbaud, Marcel Broodthaers, Anton G. Leitner and Paul Muldoon.

Daniel Vorthuys grew up in an enclave at the foot of a Blue Mountain. He has since moved to Holland where he studied literature in Amsterdam (UVA).
